missionaries) they came to evaluate my district meeting!
It was so stressful but it was a really good meeting. I gave a training on
finding and related it to fishing! How we need to do certain things to be a
good fisherman and the same qualities apply to finding new people to teach.
It's a good thing Elder Morris (one of the APs) loved to fish because he loved
the training. Then I also had a purpose training and I asked everyone to take
off their plastic name tags and I asked them what it meant to them to put on
the name tag. Is it just a piece of plastic or does it truly mean something to
you. It was again perfect for the AP's because they talked to a man who was
from a different state and he asked them why they had a name tag on and they
explained to them the meaning behind it. Let's just say the district meeting
was perfect for the AP's hahaha! Hopefully they don't think I did too good
because I definitely can't be a Zone leader next transfer like everyone keeps
telling me.
Wednesday: We found a good potential investigator for the
sisters in our district. We went over to the Salt Lake community college to
give sister Conn a blessing because she wanted one but didn't know why. We went
out with a couple of priest age kids (16-18) to go visit some people in their
ward. We also went out with brother Wardle, one of our ward mission leaders. We
had some good visits.
Thursday: We had a short exchange (with a different
companion for some time) with the Zone leaders. Elder Gehrett and I were
together. It was crazy windy and we went and picked up everyone's trash that
was falling out of their recycling bins that were falling over! It was too
crazy but so fun. We also found them a new investigator! At night we had a lot
of stuff to talk about, I was on the phone for about an hour talking to the
Sisters on our district, and the Zone leaders about some problems.
Friday: We got a lesson set up for Sunday with an
Unbaptized kid and his family! We
stopped by to visit The Ratcliffs (less
active family) and sister Ratcliff needed a blessing she just had surgery a few
days ago. Then we talked with them for a bit and set up some service for them
on Saturday!
Saturday: We did some service for the Ratcliffs which had
a wide variety of things to do but it was good to help brother ratcliff out
with service because his wife is in a boot. We stopped by at night to visit the
Strattons an active family but with a son who is atheist, we've also taught him
in the past. He wasn't home but hey said he is doing a lot better and is going
to church without being asked now.
Sunday: Happy Easter! We had to give a talk in a senior
care center in our area and it was really cool to see the smiles brought to
their faces by talking about the true meaning of Easter! Luckily it was only a
five minute talk so there was no stress there. We went to the Copperview 1st
Ward sacrament meeting and there was some good talks given. We went to the
Copperview 6th Ward Elders quorum meeting and it was also a really good
meeting! I loved a phrase the teacher used in his lesson. He said, "Time
is irrelevant when we know the knowledge we know, life does not end at the
grave but life is eternal." (Talking about the plan of salvation and Jesus
Christ making it possible for us to live after this life with Heavenly Father)
I add my solid testimony to his, we need not to be sad when love ones pass, but
to rejoice that they have lived their life to the fullest and that we WILL see
them again.
Love you all,
Elder Aaron Ashby
